Detailed description of Capitol Hill Golf Club - Senator (RTJGT)

Capitol Hill Golf Club, is a Public, 54 hole golf facility located in Prattville, Alabama and is part of Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The facility has three championship 18 hole golf courses. They are, The Judge, The Senator, and The Legislator.

The Senator is a traditional Scottish-style layout. Over 150 pot-hole bunkers are situated throughout the 18 holes, and mounds 20 to 40 feet in height engulf the landscape, cleverly hiding the cart path or any other hole from the fairway. The Senator's bent-grass greens provide exceptional conditions every month of the year. The Senator is also home to the LPGA's Navistar Classic.

I played this course in the afternoon. The Senator course is really the only links-style course on the Robert Trent Jones Trail. It features huge mounds that typically line both sides of the fairways. These mounds are covered with thick tall grass so this can affect play and the pace of play.

The layout is interesting but can be a bit monotonous such that you may not remember each and every hole after you finish your round. Greens can be a bit firm. Definitely a course you need to play a few times before you get the feel of it.

I would rank this course a bit low when comparing it to all the other great Trail courses. But, still a treat!

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level

Great links style course. Avoid the pot bunkers, use the 150 markers for targets. We played on a windy day and it was quite challenging. Play the other two courses at this location.

Links-style course that has numerous towering hills and tons of fescue/gorse that is absolutely unplayable if you end up there. Many drives that are struck a little off line wind up in the "natural" grass which then require 4 people looking intensely just to find a ball (by the looks of it not too many people look long since we found dozens of balls while looking for ours) which really slows down play. A walk into the fescue means that your ankles will look like you got into a fight with an angry cat and lost. Might be a good course to play if played regularly to better understand where to avoid. Legislator and Judge are far better options at Capitol Hill.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy

Exceptional place to tee it up. This course is one of three at this location. It is my favorite layout in Prattville, AL. It can be played by anyone.

The middle and forward tees still give a good challenge for the mid - to high - handicap player. The better players will like the Orange and Purple tee locations for the highest challenge.

The key to playing this course is to focus on the 150 yd stakes on the par 4-s and to place your tee shot in the middle on all par 5-s.

The greens are always fast and true due to the Bentgrass. The greens are very large often having 3 tiers to place pin locations. Key to 2-putts is do your best to get on the correct side of the green.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Best course in the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
